What are MongoDB transactions and when do you need them?

Model answer

Multi-document transactions make several writes succeed or fail together, as in transferring balance between two accounts. They need a replica set (Atlas has one) and add overhead. Often you can design around them by keeping related data in one document, because single-document writes are atomic.
