What is the difference between mutable and immutable types, and why does it matter?
Model answer
Mutable objects (list, dict, set) can change in place. Immutable ones (int, str, tuple, frozenset) cannot. It matters for function arguments and defaults: a function that modifies a mutable argument changes the caller's object, and immutable types are safe as dict keys.
