What is normalisation and why is it done?
Model answer
Organising tables to reduce duplicated data and update problems. First normal form: atomic values, no repeating groups. Second: no partial dependency on part of a composite key. Third: no dependency of non-key columns on other non-key columns. Normalised design keeps data consistent, and sometimes you denormalise on purpose for read speed.
